Bldwn Fall 19 is by far my favorite collection to date… with its ribbed textures and buttery soft leathers. I am a forever fan of neutrals and the local KC favorite are known for doing nothing better than muted tones and strong classic colors. These tonal pieces mixed with the supple leathers are just what the cooler weather called for.

Colombia…. so close yet so far away. Had I know what a magical enchanting place you would be I would have taken the short journey years ago. The people, the food and the landscape are all enough to make you never want to leave. We began our journey in Baru staying at the most amazing Eco hotel, Playa Manglares. It’s a fresh air, mosquito net, cook you homemade food kinda place… so if that doesn’t float your boat in the clear blue waters you better stay somewhere else. We took day trips to the Rosario islands and ate $5 lobster and snorkeled until our heart’s content. Be sure to check out Playa Blanca for good people watching and a little dose of local love.
After what was one of my favorite stays we headed inland to Cartagena, the Jewel of the Caribbean. We stayed at Casa San Augustin (a must see for anyone heading south) and it was definitely a change of pace of from our “eco-friendly” accommodations. We wandered the streets and enjoyed some of the best local cuisine (and the worst… tourist traps are everywhere in Cartagena these days). The golden city is filled with horse drawn carriages and bustling with international tourists giving you plenty to see and do. After an action packed stay wandering the colorful streets we took a short flight to Periera… better known as coffee country. The lush green Andes mountains were upon us and I couldn’t be happier to escape the hot city for some cooler days. There were hot springs and hot coffee in abundance to warm us up though. A lifelong must see for me has always been Cocora Valley, home to the wax palms (tallest palm trees in the world). We took horses into the valley and had lunch with a local farmer and his cat… a PERFECT day and perfect way to end one of my favorite adventures.

Bldwn has always been a personal favorite of mine… a little local with a little LA. When you think of luxurious everyday pieces you immediately think of this once denim focused brand. You will still find strong denim pieces but now it’s mixed in with polished separates and in this case a perfect marriage of textures and tones. I absolutely love the Wynn pant and Winters top in Hemp. They feel refined and casual all at the same time, which is something I’m always in search of when shopping for timeless pieces. Bldwn has come full circle this season with a sense of completeness in the collection. And I have to say, Bldwn Fall 2019 definitely doesn’t disappoint.

As someone who loves to support local makers and is always on the hunt for the perfect black boot it was almost fate when I discovered Zoey Simone. She is a local Kansas City designer who just launched her first collection of all Vegan shoes that also happen to come in recycled boxes for those of us who care about animals AND the earth. As most of us know finding a high quality vegan boot is next to impossible. The fake leather always feels a little… well… fake. So Zoey had to get a little creative with sourcing her materials… my personal favorite is the canvas boot (that I’m wearing above). All of her shoes are made in Portugal and are some of the highest quality I’ve ever seen, comparable to Acne Studios or Alexander Wang. I’ll be wearing these until the cows come home… and they actually will, because none were harmed in the making of these shoes. 😊

Look #1 - Evening Chic

The Country Club Plaza has always been the place to be in KC. Ever since I was a kid I remember coming to the Plaza to shop, eat somewhere exciting and to see the Christmas lights. It’s always been the hot spot for outdoor shopping and I love that it feels a touch European with the architecture and fountains (we are the city of fountains… only second to Rome). When getting dressed, whether it’s for a big night out or just a casual daytime affair, the Plaza is a one stop shopping experience. A few of my favorite stores include BLDWN Market, Tivol, Barton Perriera, Urban Outfitters, Free People and Eileen Fisher. It’s almost impossible NOT to find what you’re looking for in this bag of shopping tricks. I hit up Bldwn Market first because they carry a large selection of my favorite name brands… like Isabel Marant, Ulla Johnson, Ganni and Staud. Once I nailed down the look I was going for (an Isabel Marant black linen set), the accessorizing was a breeze with Barton Perriera just across the street and Tivol KC down the way. My favorite frames were the Catroux from Barton - they are the perfect touch of dressy and classic all in one. I picked out the most amazing chunky gold jewelry from Tivol. They always have the perfect pieces you are looking for, ones that are both timeless yet right on trend. When you want to be all dressed up with somewhere to go… head to the Country Club Plaza. ✨

Look #2 - Daytime

For a casual daytime look I love the fabrics and colors at Eileen Fisher. Safari chic is having a serious moment right now and the earthy green tone of this gauzy top and pants are perfection. Pair it with sneakers or your favorite sandal and you are ready to head out in search of the big 5… restaurants on the plaza that is. I love this woven bag from Bldwn Market paired with a belt from Free People for a utilitarian feel. Pull it together with a chic pair of aviators from Barton Perriera and bam… your ready to Trek (around the Plaza) .
